Pictures of equipment used when filming and editing the thriller opening

Tripod- We used this when we want to get a steady and still recording of what is happening.

Mono pod- We used this when aiming to get steady panning shots.
Apple mac-We used the apple mac to edit parts of our films and to processes uploads.

A Program that we used through an apple mac was I-movie, we used this to edit and cut out bits that were not needed from the camera recording.
Another program Cameron used at home was Sony-Vegas 08, he used this to edit the whole opening and to add music and create special effects and cut out unnecessary parts to make the film as short as minutes long.
I also used Youtube were I had the film uploaded so we can create annotations explaining what the film was about what we related it too and how we thought the music had an impact on the whole opening, we also uploaded our film onto facebook to get comments and idea's from friends as its always helpful to receive other peoples opinions on your work to help you along the way.

In this link I have added annotations to the original recording of our thriller opening, it highlights the ways in which our film opening links to other films and what the target audience is and how it will attract them, it also goes on to talk about the music and how it adds suspense and curiosity and effects used to relate to current situations in the opening.

AS Media Thriller v1

This is the final edited trailer for our As media thriller, it currently runs for 4:05mins which is double the time required for our task, and there will be a shorter version once we have edited and cut out some parts which are not really required.
In this trailer we have the main actor who was played by Jack and another important role played by Gemma. Me and Cameron helped suggest camera angles and possible ways in which the actors can act, while Cameron recorded.

we also had other actors with the help of some friends outside of the group, who we had doing the make up and acting as dead victims inside the bath tub.

The editing and special effects were done by Cameron using Sony Vegas, approximately 20hours were spent editing including finding music and applying sound effects.

Recording all the scenes took 4 hours all during the afternoon between 1pm to 5pm and was recorded at Cameron's house.

The equipment we used for recording was an 8 mega pixel camera and a tripod too help get smooth recordings.

Acting out a script

We were handed a script which had lines and a screen play which we were too act out infront of the class and create a believable scenario, we tried acting scarcastic, serious and angry too see how flexible the screen play was, for my group, demitri acted as the woman role Skylar who was flirting with the male role called Will how was acted by me. We tried a sarcastic aproach and then implemented a cocky attitude and it made a difference too the whole story. We learned that hand jestures and emotions should be shown too make it believable, we also learned that you should not make it obvious you are angry by mentioning "im so angry" because the audiance are not stupid and a director should assume that they will get the hint that the character is angry by seing his body language and facial expression, eye contact is also important.

acting out a thriller opening

Our group have a task too re-act a thriller opening, the film we chose too act out is "no country of old men" we were trying too capture the same camera angles as that of the actual film, the film started off with landscape shots so we tried too implement the same feel using the school fields, it then involved a few actors acting out a murder scene. I acted as the killer and Jack was the police officer being murdered. Cameron was the camera man and captured all the angles. After getting all the shots we needed we then went back too the computer room too edit and put all the scenes together, and too cut out all the mistakes and un needed sections.

Character analysis

This is just a short story line were i created a character and put up a small description of his feelings and personality.

Character Analysis

He woke up with cream all over his chest, unsure of what happened the night before, he can only assume that last nights party destroyed his house with the state of the curtains and half of his belongings missing. He was naked stripped down too the bone and covered in filth. He had no cloths too change into, they were all missing. In his confusion he decided too go downstairs and think things through over breakfast but there isn’t any milk or bread or any food to be found. The smell of weed and booze stained his sofa and he finds a hobo resting in the armchair beside the missing TV.
Curious as too what happened he jumped on the hobo and viciously questioned what happened and the hobo replied get out of my house. In raged with anger he hit the hobo in the face and a fight broke out, the hobo locked him out of his house.
He was left too roam the streets naked with no idea of what just happened no home to go too and no family too seek support. His life just took a major downfall.

Characters personality:
He is confused as too what happened and is very angry and violent with the way he attacked the hobo, this also shows he is careless too risk this happening too his home with a house party, it also shows that he probably didn’t know the people that he invited or he just hang around with the wrong type of people who he called friends.

short video

Our group have decided too do a practise recording, we tested the 180 degree rule and create a short scenario of two lovers, Gemma and Jack were acting as the two lovers. Me and Cameron arranged the camera shots while Cameron did the recording. We acted out a scene requiring the 180 degree turn and mixed in a few close ups and tracking shots, we got the recorded scenes we were after and then went off to edit and cut out the parts not needed, to do this we used Imovie but we found Imovie too be slightly hard too use compared too other programs, Cameron has a program called Sony Vegas Pro9 on his home computer which will be used too edit our recordings when we come too do the 2minute long thriller opening.
